Chapter 13 CTD.

here is part 2

Hadleys POV

I always thought I was happy. I always thought that I was fine on my own too. These past months has really opened my eyes. I wasn’t happy at all and being alone sucked. I started when Katy was there without question and now for the first time in…well forever I have a best friend and because she helped me I was able to talk to Sidney instead of running in the opposite direction. Yes Sidney and I were still new but he made me feel something that I hadn’t felt in god knows how long…not the last year or so with Felix I know that much. For the first time since I was younger I had everything that I wanted the dream job, a best friend, and well who knows what Sidney is.

“Hey you ok?” Sidney asked me as we pulled into the club parking lot.

“Yea I’m fine just kinda zoned out”

“Are you sure you’ve been quiet since Max asked if you were coming?”

Well now is a good of a time as any.

“Well it just threw me off. No one has called me that other than my dad”

“That doesn’t sound so bad, and I like that nickname.” he said when I had to stop and take a deep breath I hadn’t talked about this to anyone.

“My left when I was fifteen. He decided to leave my mom and me. At first I was hurt because he wouldn’t let me go with him. My mom and I never got along…I haven’t talked to her since I was 18 and starting school. But that isn’t the point. My dad left because he was sick or something. He didn’t want to put me through that. He died by the time I was 16. I found out by a phone call.” I said as the tears finally started to flow.
I
hadn’t every really cried and grieve my mom had never allowed it because she was so mad that her life had changed so drastically. But I was finally able to cry and tell someone..now he knows hopefully he doesn’t run…though I wouldn’t really blame him.

-------
Sidneys POV

For the first time in…well for the first time ever something other than hockey was making me happy…I should say someone, Hadley was perfect. I always wanted to be around her. Up until tonight we had been able to spend a lot of time together. Now with the season starting that was going to be the test because I wouldn’t be around nearly as much because of it. Hopefully everything works out fine…This past month with her has been amazing and I cant wait to see what the future holds for us…

I asked her if she was ok. She had been really quiet since we left the arena...and the explanation I got was not what I expected to say the least.

“Well it just threw me off. No one has called me that other than my dad”

“That doesn’t sound so bad, and I like that nickname.” I told her but then she continued with what she told me

I found out by a phone call.”

Ok I retract my previous statement. I didn’t know what to do but we were now in the parking lot to the club and I had a crying girlfriend and for some reason I think this is the first time she had been able to really grieve. But I also know there is more to what she just said because she mentioned something about her mom but I think I’ll save that for a different time.

“What do you say we just head to my place instead of going inside.” I figured it would be best considering she was still crying. I wanted to help but I didn’t know what to do. I always had my family.

She nodded and then just put her head on the window. All I wanted to do was hold her but that would have to wait until we got to my house. About halfway there I realized that she had stopped crying.

“Hadley I don’t really know what to say…I’m sorry”

“It’s ok that is the first time I told anyone about that.”

“Are you sure…we can talk about it more if you” but she cut me off.

“I really don’t know anything else. I know that he was sick and he didn’t want me to go through it. I honestly don’t know anything else.”

The tears had started streaming down her beautiful face again and I couldn’t stand it.

“OK…umm” I really was at a loss for words

We pulled into the driveway and I quickly walked around and opened the door for her. When we got into the house I quickly went and got her a pair of shorts and t-shirt so she could get more comfortable. We just sat on the couch and I finally got to do what I want I just held her. Even under the circumstances I loved how close we were getting.

“How bout we get some sleep Hads….I mean Hadley” I wasnt sure if I could still use her nickname becuase of well ...I would have to ask her but I realized she was pretty much asleep already. So I gently picked up and carried her upstairs.

“Sid…”

“Yea”

“You can call me Hads its ok…I like the nickname”

“Ok…I will”

“Sweet dreams” I said as I climbed into to bed behind her and held her all night long as we drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 13

***It short but I wanted to put this part up. Im working on some POV for both of them but its been hard..Hope you all like this..***

The regular season was finally starting tonight and it was going to be Hadley’s first time seeing a hockey game in person. Not only that it was going to be the first time that she was going to be around all the other girlfriends. Katy wasn’t going with her because she and Jordan had ended things when she found out about his girlfriend from back home.

“I feel so bad Katy I should stay here with you…”

“No you shouldn’t go and support Sidney. I will be fine Jordan and I just weren’t meant to be.”

“Are you sure?” she asked Katy

“Yes I’m sure I am madder at myself than hurt. I had heard rumors about it but I was so blinded by the physical attraction that I just ignored my better judgment. GO HAVE A GOOD TIME”

“Ok but you call me if you need me and I’m here…I mean it” Hadley told her on her way out.

She and Katy knew she was acting this way because Hadley was nervous about meeting the other girls.

“Look for Vero when you get there. She was my favorite” Katy told Hadley as she was walking out the door.

---- At the game-----

Hadley had gotten her ticket and pass from Sidney the night before when he came to take her out that night. She got out of the cab she took to the arena that way she could spend time with him after the game. She was wandering around the arena looking around when it felt like she walked into a rock.

“Hello there” the man said “I’m Mario.”

“O ummm Hi, I’m Hadley”

“Sid’s girlfriend?” he asked

“Yea I was looking for where I was supposed to go. I’ve never been here before.” She said nervously.

“Don’t worry about it a lot of the girlfriends just made their way up to their seats.”

“Ok,” she said and looked around she had no clue where to go. She made a mental note to yell at
Sidney for not giving her really good directions. She felt so embarrassed it was not the way she had wanted to meet Sidney’s second father.

“Here follow me I was just on my way up to the box.” He laughed

Mario and Hadley got to know each other on the way up to her seats. Mario made sure she knew where she was going and said that he would see her after the game.

As Hadley made her way to her seats she was looking around for Vero. She couldn’t remember what she had looked like and quietly made her way down to the seat where a bunch of girls were sitting there talking to each other. This is it she thought to herself and sat down next to them, not saying anything.

“Hi, Hadley right?” a very pretty girl asked. “Hi I’m Vero” its nice to see you again.

Hadley took a deep breath suddenly not being so nervous because of what Katy had told her. “Hi its nice to see you again too”

Hadley and Vero hit it off and talked up until the guys skated out for pre game warm ups. When she finally saw Sidney take the ice she couldn’t help but stare at the ease he had on the ice. The game went by like that with the Pens starting the season off with a win.

“Great the boys should be in a good mood. You should come out with us.”

“I would love to” Hadley said even though she was still unsure of herself around some of the other girlfriends. There were a few of them who would look at her and look very disgusted so when they made their way down to the lounge where they usually waited for the guys to get
done.

It didn’t take long for Sidney to come out from the locker room He made sure of that because he knew that it was Hadley first time her with all the girlfriends and she was really nervous about it especially since Katy wasn’t there.

“Hey beautiful.” He said as he wrapped his hands around her. “Hey there. Great game” she said and turned around in his arms to kiss him.

“Let’s get this party started…Diesel everyone” Max said as he walked out. “You coming Hads”

She froze for a minute because no one had called her that since her dad. She forgot how much she liked that name but still wasn’t sure about someone else calling her that. She nodded anyway and walked hand in hand out to Sidney’s car

“You know I like that name. I think I’m going to use it.” Sidney said to her as they made their way to the club. Hadley just looked over at him and smiled not really wanting to talk about her dad and ruin the mood for the night. She thought to herself that she would tell him later. She wanted to enjoy the first win of the season and be happy a little while longer.

Chapter 12

***Just a note***
I thought that now would be a good time to bring in the other guys…hope you enjoy.

-----

The last night of camp a lot of the guys decided to all go out and have a guys night out before they went back to Pittsburgh for the beginning of season following the cup year.
Sidney knew that he wanted to make the date at the incline something special since she never had been up there before but he didn’t know what to do. He and Marc-Andre were following behind the rest of the guys on the way to the restaurant.

“Hey Flower I need some help”

“Yea I know you do…”Marc-Andre answered back but stopped when he saw how serious Sidney was being.

“OK man whats up?” he continued

“I promised Hadley a date at the incline when we got back and since I asked her to be my girlfriend over the phone I want to do something a little more special than just going up the incline and going to a restaurant.” Sidney said.

He had never really had a relationship long enough to make a special date or had the urge in those short relationships to do something special and romantic.

“Wow you really like this girl don’t you.” Flower asked

“Yea man I do and I want to prove to her that I am not going to drag her along and hurt her to” Sidney said

“Well Sid you can’t prove that to her overnight but I see what you mean about doing something a little special…you really asked her that over the phone?” he asked not really able to hold back a little chuckle. “WOW that was smooth buddy what are you 10…wait she did say yes right?”

“Of course she said yes Flower why else would I want to do something special..” Sidney said

“You’ll learn that most guys do something special when they screw up…I know I have done it before” Flower said getting a chuckle out of Sidney.

“Well I guess I did kind of screw up by asking her over the phone but o well I’m lucky she said yes. Come on man I need something”

“How about a picnic or something like that, because that will take some effort out of you. Just don’t kill her.” Flower said.

“That is perfect Flower…Thanks man” Sidney said to him as they caught up with the rest of the guys.

The rest of the night Sidney was hanging with the guys but writing down notes as ideas popped into his head…

At the same time Hadley was working late on a new campaign for a new big client. She couldn’t believe lucky she was. She never dreamed she would be getting campaigns like this so early in her career but here she was with her dream job. On top of that she was happy with her personal life to she had friends and a boyfriend something she had shut herself off of not so long ago. As she was jotting ideas down for her campaign her phone beeped signaling she had a message.

You’re not allergic to anything are you? Sidney had texted her

No why?

It’s a surprise for when I get back tomorrow. Hope you are free.

Yes I am free tomorrow.

Good Ill pick you up at 7

She couldn’t help but wonder what he was up to. They were supposed to go to the incline. She had wanted to do some research but she stopped herself because she just wanted to enjoy the moment. Something else that was new for her but she kind of liked it.

----The next night----

Hadley had made sure to get off of work exactly at 5 so she could get home and get ready for her date with Sidney, their first official date as boyfriend and girlfriend. She hadn’t been this excited since she got her first campaign in college. Before she knew it, 7 rolled around and again he showed up right on time.

“Hey beautiful” he greeted her at the door and kissed her cheek.

“Hey there, how was the drive back from camp.” Hadley asked

“Great because it meant I was going to get to take my beautiful girlfriend out on our first official date as a couple.” Sidney said and all Hadley could do was smile.

Sidney had timed it perfectly when they arrived at the bottom of the incline the sun was setting just in the right place. Hadley’s mouth just dropped open.

“This is amazing”

“Yea it is great to come up here at sunset but just wait for the ride back down”

They got into a car to head up to their destination. Hadley was amazed at the view she saw as they took the ride up.

“So do I get to know what my surprise is yet?” she asked hoping she would get him to spill

Sidney put his arm around her and whispered into her ear “Nope not yet” having him talk that close to her sent shivers down her spine. She just looked at him smile and gave him a small kiss on the lips and then continued to watch the sunset. When they got up to the top Hadley could see the restaurant in the distance and was starting to walk that way.

“Nope we are going this way” he told her and grabbed her hand to lead her in the other direction.

Not too far off in the distance she saw the flicker of light. When they got closer she saw a picnic all set up with some tiki torches around it.

“Oh my gosh this is so cute” Hadley said

Sidney tried to hide a little bit of disappointment because he was shooting for romantic but when he saw how happy she looked he couldn’t be too disappointed.

“You like it. I wanted to do something special.”

Hadley just turned around and looked at him.

“This is special I love it Sidney. I didn’t know you could cook” she said.

“Well I had some help with that part but I am glad you like it.”

They sat down on the picnic and enjoyed the food that Natalie had helped make Sidney make for the night. The conversation picked exactly where it had left off before he left. They got to know each other a little bit better. They talked about Hadley’s new campaign at work and lots of other things.

“When the season starts are you going to be able to come to the games” he wanted to ask because she had just finished talking about how her new campaign had been making her really busy.

“Yes I can’t wait to see my first hockey game live” she said making Sidney smile widely

“Maybe you will be my good luck charm” he said.

“Well talk about pressure gosh…” she said laughing with him.

They had a great dinner but instead of going back down they decided to walk a little bit and enjoy each other’s company. As they were walking around they heard music in the background.

As they got closer they noticed a group of people playing some slow jazz music.

Sidney just couldn’t help himself “Dance with me”

Hadley just looked up at him and smiled. She really couldn’t tell him no. As they danced she couldn’t help but think about how much she had opened up since that night on the dock. She was happy for the first time in a long time..they danced as the moon rose up.

After the music had stopped they decided to make their way back down because they both had early days the next morning.

“Remember what I told you about on the ride down.” He told her as they got into the car.

As the ride started Hadley’s mouth dropped open “I have never seen Pittsburgh like this, this is the most beautiful thing that I have ever seen.”

While she was saying this Sidney was thinking the same thing about her. He knew he was lucky and he couldn’t screw this up…When she turned to say thank you for the night he just couldn’t stop himself and leaned in and began to kiss her. He deepened the kiss by brushing his tongue against her lips asking for entrance, she obliged and slightly parted her lips for him. Their tongues didn’t really fight for dominance but it was still a hungry kiss that lasted the rest of the ride down. When they reached the bottom the man working had to cough to get their attention.

Both Sidney and Hadley blushed furiously as they exited the cart to his range rover. The whole way home he held her hand, after that kiss he just had to touch her somehow even though he could only think about getting her into bed and having his way with her. Before too long they pulled up to her building and they had to say goodnight. Sidney kept the kiss light because if he didn’t he was never going to leave but he didn’t have any luck because this time it was her turn to deepen the kiss. After a while passed her apartment door flew open.

“Jesus Darryl get a damn room.” Jordan said on his way out.

The blushing returned from both Sidney and Hadley.

“Goodnight Hadley” he said breathlessly.

“Goodnight Sid” she returned and kissed him one more time.

Chapter 11

Hadley had a hard time getting to sleep that night she kept thinking about how great the date had actually gone and for the first time in a long time she was looking forward to something other than work. She finally fell asleep thinking about what the future may hold for her.
Sidney was the same way he lay in his bed just thinking about how perfect the night had gone…and she even let him kiss her goodnight. He thought for maybe a half second about making the kiss longer but he kept going back to that conversation on the deck the night of his birthday…he knew he had to be careful she had been hurt by Felix, but he wasn’t like Felix, he was different and he had to keep showing her that. But for now he had to get some sleep the team was leaving for training camp early the next morning.

--- Early the next morning -------

She heard her door whip open and she gently rolled over to look at the clock she had beside her table 8am.

“What the hell”

“O don’t start with that…I want details how did it go.” Katy said

“It was a great night….is that enough can I go back to sleep now?” Hadley said not even opening her eyes.

“NO…that is not enough…are you going out again….what did ya talk about….OH MY GOD did he kiss you”

“yes…a lot…and I’m not telling. NOW PLEASE I NEED SLEEP.” Just then her phone went off…

I can’t get anything peace she thought but when she saw who the message was from she couldn’t help but smile.

I had a great time last night. I will try and call when I get a break…XOXO SID

Hadley couldn’t wipe the smile off of her face. She liked him she knew and she was even admitting it to herself. Sure she was scared but she liked the way she felt when she read that message…it proved to her that she could be happy with someone again…she found herself laying there hoping that it would turn into more than just dating…

-----On the bus-------

Sidney couldn’t help but smile at how last night went. No freak outs, no wine being spilt everywhere, and most importantly she had a good time, she let him kiss her and happily agreed to talk when they could throughout camp. He was already looking forward to the date at the incline when he got back.

“So any spilt wine last night?” Maxed asked as seriously as possible pulling Sidney out of his thoughts.

“Ha Ha very funny but no I let the waiter open it” He retorted. “I learned my lesson the first time thank you.”

“Ooooo the kid is in love” Max joked not able to hold in the laughter anymore.

Sidney just blushed but shook his head. He couldn’t love her…not yet anyway. Hell he had just gotten her to go on a date with him and given her recent history that was a feat in itself. He wanted to enjoy this and see where it went, he wanted a future with her, a relationship definitely…hopefully she was willing. He decided to just ignore the joking and be happy in the moment something he was going to have to thank her for someday.

------ A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER------

Hadley was barely making it through the day at work. It had been brutal the past few days a couple of people had left the firm because they were deployed with the reserves so everyone’s work had doubled. On top of that she was letting her thoughts get the best of her. She hadn’t heard from him since the last text message he sent the morning after the date. She had a great time and she couldn’t wait for date two like he had mentioned but since they hadn’t spoken like they said the bad part of her brain was winning the battle. Maybe he was just saying those things to be nice and maybe he didn’t want anything more which she was almost completely positive that she wanted to see what would happen now.

“Earth to Hadley…lets go get some lunch and then you are going to spill” Katy said.

Hadley just nodded and got up. She was really grateful that she had someone to talk to now especially now when she was beginning to take a chance with her heart again especially so soon after Felix and with the anniversary coming up soon she was really going to need Katy.

“I haven’t talked to him since that text he sent and now my mind is going to all sorts of places” Hadley said as they sat down at the diner table. “ I don’t think he is going to call…he probably still thinks that I am the crazy girl.”

“Ok first of all, he is going to call. I haven’t talked to Jordy that much since he had been gone. But when I did talk to him he said camp was hard the first couple of days and he was just worn out and anyways according to Jordy Sid hasn’t stopped smiling since the date night kinda like someone else I know.” Katy said matter-of-factly.

“Still Katy you have talked to him I have gotten nothing.” Hadley said.

Just then her phone beeped signaling a message.

Sorry I haven’t called…camp is kicking my ass…keep your phone around tonight…XOXO Sid

She couldn’t help but smile at that. It was almost like he was reading her mind. Well at least she had something to look forward to now.

“So was I right” Katy asked knowing that she was.

“This is going to be the only time that I admit this but yes you were right, he said to keep my phone around tonight.”

Katy just smiled at Hadley but continued with her speech anyway. “Hadley before you even start second guessing how happy you are and how much you really do like him let me say this… You deserve to be happy and if he is going to make you happy then go for it, don’t second guess anything until he gives you a reason to. He isn’t Felix.”Hadley smiled at her friend “I don’t know how I am ever going to thank you for everything you have done. You really have saved me. I used to think that I would never have a friend like you but I am so so lucky to have you as a friend.”

Katy just smiled and nodded “Ok no more sappy shit. Let’s get through work and then vege til our men call.”Hadley just laughed. It had only been one official date was Sidney really her man???
-----THAT NIGHT----

Hadley and Katy were both laying on the floor watching the notebook and eating popcorn when
Hadley’s phone went off. She got up and ran to the phone hoping it was the call that she had been waiting for. He phone had already rang four different times but it was all work stuff. She hoped this time was different.

“Hello” she said not looking at the caller id because she didn’t want to be disappointed again if it wasn’t him

“Hey there beautiful” his voice echoed into the phone. Hadley pointed to her bedroom and Katy nodded and then all but pushed her into the room so she could talk to Sidney.

“Hey yourself, how was camp today”

“Good I’m beat but I wanted to talk to you for a little bit”

She just smiled and then said “You probably don’t want to talk about Hockey do you?”

“It’s ok I don’t mind. But I would love to hear what you have been up to since our date.”

“Umm Ok but its not really that interesting…I just work and come home” she half laughed because she realized just how much she had closed herself off.

“Do you love your job though?” he asked sensing her tone when she said that.

“Yes I really do love it…I get to be creative and my dad…” but she stopped what she was saying, she wasn’t sure if she was ready to talk about that because she never talked about it with anyone.

“Your dad what?”

Even though he felt stupid asking all these questions Sidney wanted to know everything about her.

“O nothing my dad passed along the advertising gene.” Hadley said trying to hide the sadness in her voice.

“O kind of like my dad passing along hockey.” he finally answered instead of answering questions because he could tell that she didn’t want to talk about something right now.

“Yes exactly like that.” She said happy that he somehow understood that she needed a change of subject.

They talked about everything that night and talked about their date at the incline when he got back. He also promised that they would talk more now that he was in back into the swing of camp. It amazed both of them that they got along so well.

Hadley hadn’t felt so at ease just talking to someone since her dad. She could always tell him anything. When he left she shut down but somehow after only a few conversations, and one official date, she was opening up again for the first time in years. She liked it that way…she knew she like him more than she thought possible…she couldn’t wait for the future.

“ Can’t wait to see you when you get back Sidney” Hadley said and shocked herself that she said it so willingly out loud even though she had been thinking it since he had called her.

“Me either Hadley, Can I ask you something before we got off here for the night” he said knowing that there was no going back now no matter what her answer.

“Would you maybe want to ummm be my girlfriend?” he asked nervously.

“Yes Sidney I would love to be your girlfriend.” Hadley answered not even have to think about it.

“Really” he said surprised that she had answered so easily considering what she had told him.

“Yes really, there is just something about you Sidney”

“Wow I’m lucky. Goodnight Hadley and sweet dreams” Sidney said.

No I’m the lucky one Hadley thought after she hung up the phone. He was slowly bringing her back to the person she was when her dad was around, something that no one had been able to do not even Felix. But there was still so much that he didn’t know about her.
